Tangle & Verse was founded by Valerie Conte and Thomas Mesquita, longtime Berkshire residents with deep roots in the region's cultural, artistic, and business communities.
For more than two decades, they have lived, worked, raised a family, and built meaningful relationships throughout Berkshire County. Today, Tangle & Verse draws upon those connections to help guests discover the Berkshires through authentic local experiences, insider access, and thoughtfully curated recommendations.
Valerie's approach to hospitality has been shaped by a lifetime of curiosity, travel, and appreciation for beautiful places. Raised in historic Ridgefield, Connecticut, and later living and working in New York City, she developed an eye for the small details that transform an experience from enjoyable to unforgettable. Her travels throughout Italy and Europe, combined with a career in marketing, consumer experience, and brand strategy, reinforced a simple belief: Details matter. Not because they are extravagant. Because they make people feel welcome, comfortable, delighted, and cared for.
